Embrasse de la terre - The Official Cocktail of Tales of the Cocktail 2017

After a month of carefully sampling hundreds of recipes submitted from all over the world, Tales of the Cocktail® is proud to announce the winner of the 2017 Official Cocktail Competition: congratulations to Zachary Faden of Mirabelle in Washington, D.C. for his winning cocktail Embrasse de la terre, a phrase that roughly translates to “to kiss the earth.” Faden’s spin on the martini edged out a victory over seven other finalists whose recipes came in one point below his own. For his impressive recipe, Faden will receive a cash prize, and will have Embrasse de la terre featured as the Official Cocktail of this summer’s Tales of the Cocktail. Read more about it here.

“Congratulations to Zachary Faden for his winning recipe selected to be the Official Cocktail at Tales of the Cocktail 2017. We’re truly honored that our Rutte Old Simon Genever, a recipe from the very hand of our founder, Simon Rutte, was chosen as a key ingredient for this extraordinary cocktail. Our Master Distiller, Myriam Hendrickx, works hard to preserve and rediscover the almost 150 years of Rutte heritage we possess by crafting gins and genevers that carry the creative spirit of our founder and succeeding generations of Rutte family distillers. We’re proud and excited to see genever making a strong comeback in creative and high-quality drink creations all over the world. Thanks to the international bartender community, genever is becoming popular again today in the top bars in the US and the rest of the world. Surely, Zachary’s fine creation, ‘Embrasse de la Terre’, will reinforce this trend” - Mark de Witte, CEO of De Kuyper Royal Distillers and Rutte Distillery.
