TEAM BEHIND AWARD-WINNING BARCELONA BAR TWO SCHMUCKS LAUNCH ALL-DAY
RESTAURANT FAT SCHMUCK AS BOTH SITES USHER IN A NEW ERA

The team behind Barcelona’s Two Schmucks are pleased to announce the long-awaited reopening of the award-winning cocktail bar, and have also opened a new destination restaurant, Fat Schmuck, a
few doors down from the Two Schmucks site in the buzzy El Raval neighbourhood of Barcelona. According to the group’s founder Moe Aljaff and newly installed creative directors Juliette Larrouy and
Pom Modeste, Fat Schmuck will specialise in “comfort food, punk coffee and fizzy cocktails”.

The offering was refined over a successful restaurant pop-up, Two Schmucks on a Terrace, which ran for six months from a previously vacant restaurant space on the Plaça d'Emili Vendrell.
A regular on the World’s 50 Best Bars list, which climbed to no. 26 in 2020’s awards, Two Schmucks endured a tough pandemic, with restrictions effectively forcing it to close. The team, including creative
directors Juliette Larrouy and Pom Modeste, used the closure to reinvent both the bar’s interiors and its menus.

The bar will relaunch with a ‘Best Of’ menu featuring some of the acclaimed bar’s best-loved drinks from over the years, before introducing a brand-new menu for the new era, drawing
from its creative directors’ love of gastronomy. Meanwhile, the renamed Fat Schmuck has now moved permanently into the site it inhabited for its six-month pop-up, and makes use of new and improved interiors. The action will centre around the site’s sun-lit terrace, which seats 70, as well as the buzzy, 40-cover dining room.

The menu at Fat Schmuck is all about classic and contemporary comfort food, with an eclectic menu inspired by American dishes and pan-Asian flavours that goes from brunch dishes to late-night
snacks. Diners can expect takes on banh mi-style Vietnamese sandwiches; signature fried chicken and waffles with palm sugar toffee butter; the Octo-Dog, a sherry and mustard-glazed octopus
tentacle with spicy relish in a brioche hot dog bun; and a fried donut with white chocolate, mascarpone and blood orange glaze.

Meanwhile, unlike the stirred drinks and classic cocktails at Two Schmucks, the Fat Schmuck drinks list will be based mainly around thirst-quenching long drinks and spritzes, including 12-16 cocktails
available on tap. The Not a Paloma will be a carbonated cocktail built around buttered tequila, mezcal, pear eau de vie and grapefruit with a seasoned tajin rim, while the Strawberry Kush will make use of
strawberry-infused white rum, sichuan pepper, mint, cardamom, citrus and sparkling wine. Stirred drinks and a short list of natural wines from independent Spanish winemakers will also be available.

About Fat Schmuck
Launched originally as a six-month pop-up named Two Schmucks on a Terrace, Fat Schmuck opened in summer 2021 as an all-day restaurant and bar in a previously vacant restaurant site two doors
down from its sister venue Two Schmucks. The 110-cover venue combines a vibrant dining room and outdoor terrace, serving American comfort food with pan-Asian influences and long drinks.

Described by its founder Moe Aljaff as a “five-star dive bar”, Two Schmucks opened in El Raval, Barcelona in 2017 following a series of successful pop-ups. Aljaff opened the 30-cover bar with friend
and business partner AJ White after the two met while working in bars in Oslo, and the venue quickly became a mainstay on the World’s 50 Best Bars list, reaching 26 in 2020. Following White’s departure
from the business in 2020, Juliette Larrouy and Pom Modeste have become creative directors of both Two Schmucks and Fat Schmuck, operating both sites alongside Aljaff as the group ushers in a new
era in 2021.
